AppStream Applications User Guide

 

Overview

This guide will explain how to successfully connect to AppStream to run the FreeWheel hosted applications successfully.

Supported Operating Systems and Browsers


On PC, AppStream supports the following Operating Systems:
 

  • Windows™ 8 and 8.1 editions with latest Service Pack
  • Windows™ 10 Home with latest updates
  • Windows™ 10 Professional with latest updates


On Mac, AppStream supports the following Operating Systems:
 

  • Mac OS X 10.8.x and later.


AppStream supports the following web browsers:
 

  • Google Chrome version 125.0.6422.76/77 or higher
  • Firefox version 120 or higher
  • Microsoft Edge version 124.0.2478.109 or higher

Logging Into AppStream

1. To log into AppStream, open a browser and navigate to the appropriate site below:
 

  • Agency buyers: https://buy.gotostrata.com
  • TV/MVPD sellers: https://sell.gotostrata.com
  • Radio sellers: https://radio.gotostrata.com

2. Enter your company email address, gotostrata account password, and click Login.

*If you unable to login, use options in section Self-Service Password Reset Features.

Self-Service Password Reset Features

If you are unable to log in to AppStream, click the 'Forgot Password?' link to display the Self-Service Password Reset System page.

In the Forgot your password? page, enter your email and click Submit. An email with a new password will be sent to you.

If you login but need to configure/maintain the gotostrata account, click Profile on the AppStream Toolbar and the click Self-Service Password Reset.

The Self-Service Password Reset System page offers two options. They are Reset Password and Change Password. 

 

Reset Password - Use this option if you do not remember your password.

1. Enter your company email and click Submit.


2. A confirmation message stating "Your password has been reset. Please check your email for the password". Check your email for your new password. 

 

Change Password - Use this option to change/update your current password. You must know your current password to use this option.

1. Enter your company email address and password.


2. Follow the password policy requirements below, type the new password, and then confirm the new password.

Password policy requirements
Be at least eight characters in length
Cannot contain your first name or last name
Must be different from your previous 24 passwords.
Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
  •  English uppercase characters (A through Z)
  •  English lowercase characters (a through z)
  •  Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
  •  Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)


3. The confirmation message, "You password has been changed," will be displayed.

Launching Apps in AppStream

1. After your initial login to AppStream, click an icon to open an app.
(The View icon will be used as an example.)

2. AppStream will establish a session connection and will load your app settings.

3. The app login pop-up window will display. Enter the username, followed by password if applicable, and click OK. If no password is required, then leave the password field blank and click OK.

4. The application will open.

To open another app, click on Catalog in the AppStream Toolbar and click the desired app icon.

Note that AppStream allows the opening multiple instances of an app. For example, opening two View instances at once.

AppStream Toolbar

In AppStream, a toolbar is presented at the top. It offers different menu options which help accessing FreeWheel apps, configure settings for AppStream sessions, and perform various commands/operations. Review the available options below.

Catalog - Displays a dropdown menu with available app icons on the FreeWheel platform.
Windows - Allows users to switch between different opened apps in AppStream.
My Files - A tool that transfer of files between a local computer or network drive(s) and AppStream.
Clipboard - A tool that allows users to copy and paste between a local computer or network drive(s) and AppStream.
Microphone - Microphone will NOT be enabled in AppStream and can be ignored.
Camera - Camera will NOT be enabled in AppStream and can be ignored.
Preferences - Displays user configurations and can provide AppStream performance info.
Full screen - Option to display apps in full screen for better visibility.
Dual monitor - Supports the use of up to two monitors where apps can be viewed simultaneously.
FN Keys - Displays keyboard shortcuts to enter special keystrokes or key combinations.
Profile - Offers a menu with the following options: Support, Self-Service Password Reset, and End Session.

Logging out of AppStream

To log off of AppStream, click Profile on the AppStream Toolbar and click End Session.

AppStream Application Timeout Settings

Idle time out for an AppStream session is set at 2 hours.
Idle time out for FreeWheel applications is set at 4 hours

Uploading and Downloading Files in AppStream

FreeWheel apps cannot directly access files from a computer or network drive. Instead, the My Files tool allows the transfer of files from a local computer or network drive to AppStream, and vice-versa.

In the AppStream Toolbar, click My Files.

In My Files, Click the Home Folder.

The Upload File(s) button in the Home Folder allows files from a local computer or network drive to be uploaded into AppStream.

The Action button allows files or zipped files to be downloaded from AppStream to the local computer.
(Note: Created folders in Temporary Files or Home Folder cannot be downloaded from AppStream. Instead, zip the folders first and then download the zipped files.)

Maintaining Files in AppStream

In the AppStream Toolbar, click Catalog and then click Windows Explorer.

The Windows Explorer app displays FreeWheel folders and drives in AppStream.
(Note: Your local computer drive and network drives will not display.)

  • Strata drive - (also referred as the S Drive) Users can save files on the Strata drive in the folder labeled ‘Share’. That folder will contain a named folder for each user. Files in the Strata drive will not be removed and accessible for later use.
  • Temporary Files - Folder location where files can be store temporarily. Files will be removed whenever the AppStream session is closed/ended.
  • Home Folder - Folder location where files can be store temporarily. Files will remain up to 10 days before being removed.
  • Downloads - The Downloads folder is not used in AppStream and can be ignored.
  • Drive with username - The drive labeled with the username (for example exceluser16) is not used in AppStream and can be ignored.


The Windows Explorer app also allows to create, edit, or delete folders in the Temporary Files, Home Folder, and Strata drive. It also allows to move files, edit file names, or delete files in Temporary Files, Home Folder, and Strata drive. Printing from AppStream

Printing is allowed in AppStream. When printing, the Print dialog will display various printers. Select the DCV Printer and click Print.

The document will then display in a new browser tab. Click the print icon on the top-right corner.

Chose a printer connected to the local computer in the Destination field and click Print.
