Transferring Files in the AppStream Client App


The AppStream 2.0 Client Application for Windows allows you access local workstation drives, network drives, and Microsoft OneDrive for downloading or uploading files via Freewheel applications. This article describes how to link those drives within the AppStream 2.0 Client Application. If you haven't installed the AppStream 2.0 Client Application for Windows on your workstation, review Support Portal article Installing the AppStream Client App (PC) for help.
 

 

Logging into AppStream Client App

Open Amazon AppStream 2.0 from your machine.

 

Enter your appropriate Freewheel site URL in the input box. Select the "Start in native application mode" checkbox as shown below. Then, click Connect.
 

For this example, web address https://buy.strata.freewheel.com will be used.


Enter your company email address and password, then click Login.

The Application Launcher window will display.

Linking Drives and Folders from AppStream Client App

A Freewheel application must be opened from the Application Launcher window to start an AppStream session and allow linking drives and folders. We recommend opening the Windows Explorer application.


After the Freewheel app opens, new options become available on the top-left corner of the Application Launcher window.

Click on the Gear icon, then click Local Resources, and then click Local Drives and Folders.

The "Share your local drives and folders" window will display and present available drives and folders from your machine. Click the Share button next to each folder or drive to make them available in AppStream.

  • Drives - Allows the sharing of entire drives connected to the workstation.
  • Folders - Allows the sharing of commonly used folder locations.

Optionally, click the Share All option in the top-right corner to share all displayed drives and folders.

In this example the local drive, network drive, and Desktop folder location will be shared with AppStream. After clicking the Share button, the option to Unshare will display.

To search for and share additional folders that are not displayed by default, click Add Folder at the bottom of the screen.

In the Browse "For Folder" popup, search for and select any necessary folders. Then, click OK.

Click the Save my configuration option to save your changes. A confirmation will display. NOTE: You must click the Save my configuration button in order to save your shared selections.

The drives and folders will become available in AppStream. (In Windows Explorer, click on refresh to display the recently shared locations.)

Linking Microsoft OneDrive from AppStream Client App

Linking Microsoft OneDrive to AppStream is similar to linking drives and folders. In the "Share your local drives and folders" window, click Add Folder.

In the Browse For Folder popup, search and select the Microsoft OneDrive or a location within Microsoft OneDrive. Then, click OK.

The OneDrive location will become available in the "Share your local drives and folders" window. Click Share.

Click the Save my configuration button to save your changes. A confirmation will display. NOTE: You must click the Save my configuration button in order to save your shared selections.

Microsoft OneDrive will become available in AppStream. (In Windows Explorer, click on refresh to display the recently shared locations.)

Exporting Files from AppStream Client App

After linking drives or folders locations in ApppStream Freewheel applications can export files to those locations. For example, billing files can be exported from SBMS to a network drive.

To set up a default file path in SBMS, navigate to the Tools menu and double-click Default Settings.

In the System Defaults popup, navigate to the General tab and click the lighting bolt icon next to the Out File Path field.

Navigate to the correct file path location in the popup, click the desired folder, then click OK. In this example the H:\Billing folder is selected as the desired file path.

In the System Defaults popup, confirm that the Out File Path field updated with the desired file path. Click Save to set that file path as the default.

After saving the default file path SBMS will export billing files to that file location.

A corresponding billing file for that station will export to that location.

Importing Files into AppStream Client App

After linking drives or folder locations in ApppStream Freewheel applications can import files from those locations. In this example, a Proposal XML file has been saved in OneDrive location C:\Users\exceluser16\OneDrive\Avail Files to import into View.

In View, click File on the main menu bar, then click Import, and then click Proposal XML file (*.xml, *.prx).

In the Import Proposal XML file popup, use the options on the left side bar or dropdown at the top to navigate to the Microsoft OneDrive folder location. Select the XML file and click Open.

After following the import workflow, the schedule info from the XML file will display on a Scheduler window.
