Fusion Bypass
Clearance
| From Strata | From Data Service Provider | From NCC | |
| Fusion Bypass | Contact STRATA AE to request this data. If the client receives Fusion, they will automatically get the Fusion Bypass instead when it is available. | Clearance for Local Market Nielsen data for the market/sweep. | Client will need to fill out the NCC Fusion agreement form and await clearance from NCC. |
Fusion Bypass data is a “flavor” of Fusion data that combines all affiliated local TV stations and local cable networks (e.g. regional sports networks, regional news networks, etc) with the Fusion data available for the market, allowing users the ability to use the Surveys in place of the C-DMA Surveys when scheduling cable.
When is it available?
Sweep Periods only for Live+7 data stream.
How is it labeled in VIEW?
When selecting the Survey in VIEW, the Fusion Bypass data will be labeled with the market name followed by “Fusion BP”. The data does not show up any differently in the Survey Selection dialog; the label is only visible in the Survey section of a VIEW worksheet.
How is the Fusion Bypass data different from Fusion data?
Fusion data does not include local TV station and local cable network data; it only includes cable networks available in the National Cable Surveys. Fusion Bypass data contains cable networks similar to the Fusion data, local cable networks from the C-DMA and local broadcast stations from the DMA. The HUT/PVTs are from Nielsen DMA data. Since DMA Broadcast Stations are included in the Fusion Bypass data, the HUT/PVTs are from the DMA data to prevent shares exceeding 100%.
Additional Information
In order to clarify the data types, Fusion and Fusion Bypass data are the same, except that Fusion Bypass data contains local TV and local Cable stations.
Fusion data come out twelve times a year and Fusion Bypass is available for sweep periods, however, a client can only receive Fusion Bypass data if they have Nielsen clearance for the market and Sweep period and have a Fusion contract. Also, there must be a general market book available from Nielsen.
So if a client wonders why they have not received Fusion Bypass, you should
check whether there is a General Market book released and whether the client
has clearance for that market.
If the client is not cleared for the General Market, then the client will receive
regular Fusion data.
You cannot tell Fusion from Fusion Bypass data by filename or from the data
installation screen, you must look at the View datasheet. The Fusion Bypass
data may also be distinguished by its larger file size.
Methodology
- Household Impressions and HUT Impressions for each Network are from the Nielsen Overnights.
- Demo Impressions and PVT Impressions are estimated by applying the National Cable VPVHs against the Nielsen Local Market Household Overnights.
- Household and Demo Populations are Nielsen’s Wired Cable Universe Estimates.

By adding in these local stations with DMA HUTs and Shares, Fusion Bypass implies DMA Equivalency.
The rational for this is that agencies buy Broadcast off a DMA book. And typically when large agencies buy Broadcast and Cable together they often use the DMA book because the Broadcast data is contained in the book.
Fusion Bypass provides both Broadcast DMA impressions from Broadcast stations, C-DMA impressions from Regional Cable Networks and Fusion C-DMA impressions with CDMA populations so zone impressions are based off the wired universe.
The alternative is the straight DMA survey. Therefore when Fusion Bypass data is used in VIEW, the DMA Ratings feature should be turned on.
Note: It is not recommended that Fusion data be mixed with Fusion Bypass data. Unexpected results may occur when projections are created. If a Fusion Bypass book is used to create the projection, the DMA HUTs from the Fusion Bypass book will produce unexpected Projections against CDMA Shares.
Only create projections Fusion with Fusion or Bypass with Bypass.

What is it?
Fusion NDM Bypass Survey is the National Data modeled Survey for Diary Markets.
When is it available?
NDM Bypass is available 12 times a year. During the Sweep periods, the NDM Bypass Survey contains National Cable Networks, Local Cable Networks and Local Broadcast Stations. During the non-Sweep periods, the NDM Bypass Survey contains only National Cable Networks.
How is it labeled in VIEW?
When selecting the Survey in VIEW, the NDM Bypass data will be labeled with the market name followed by “NDM”. The market name does not show up any differently in the Survey Selection dialog; however the service column will display “Nielsen CBL”.

The expected use is to turn on the DMA Equivalized Ratings option. The HUTs are DMA for Agencies to see DMA shares. Additionally, the only HUTs acceptable are the DMA HUTs when cable is part of a broadcast buy. Agencies buy Broadcast off the DMA book. When they buy the Broadcast and Cable together, which is extremely common for large agencies, they may sometimes use the DMA book because the Broadcast data is there. Fusion Bypass seeks to provide both Broadcast DMA impressions, Regional C-DMA impressions with Fusion C-DMA impressions. The alternative is the straight DMA survey.
The reason for the C-DMA pops is that when the user applies a zone the impression allocation is based off the wired universe.

It is important to note that when creating Projections using NDM Bypass surveys, mixing the NDM Bypass surveys between Sweep and non-Sweep periods will cause unpredictable results. Projection books are created ‘on-the-fly’ combining HUT book HUTs and Shr book Shares. If an NDM Bypass book is used to create the projection, it is possible to pull the DMA HUTs from a Sweep period NDM Bypass book which will produce unexpected Projections against CDMA based Shares from a non-Sweep period NDM Bypass book.

National Data Modeling (NDM) Using National Time Zone Surveys
What is it?
National modeled data uses national people meter data to model local household and demographic ratings in non-metered markets. Strata applies the given cable system's network ad insertion against the National network's coverage UE to the network's national impressions to create local market system HH impressions. National VPVHs are then applied to the system's HH impressions to create local market demographic ratings.
When is it available?
National Time Zone Surveys are available 12 times a year.
How is it labeled in VIEW?
When selecting the Survey in VIEW, the National Time Zone Survey will be labeled with “National Cable” followed by the specific Time Zone, e.g. EST, CST, PST. Nielsen National Cable Surveys which are reported based off the Eastern Time Zone are shifted appropriately for the other time zones and labeled with the appropriate Time Zones, e.g., CST, MST, PST.

| National Time Zone | Nielsen Cable MIT | Nielsen Cable MIT clearance | |
| Data Streams | Availability |
| Live +SD | Jan 2011 through Current |

Methodology
Zone Network HH Imps = National HH Imps * Zone Network Insertable UE / National Network Coverage UE
Zone Network Demo Imps = Zone HH Imps x National VPVH
When Zone pops are used for ratings calculations:
HH Pop = Zone HH Pop
Demo Pop = Zone Demo Pop
** calculated by using the CDMA Demo Pop * Zone HH Pop / CDMA HH Pop
When DMA Ratings are applied:
HH Pop = DMA HH Pop
Demo Pop = DMA Demo Pop
