There are no time-shifting DVR playback streams available at this time.

Household Data

Previously, Rentrak household-level metrics in STRATA used a quarter-hour crediting methodology. This methodology credits the entire 15 minutes to each station with at least five minutes of viewing. The five minutes need not be contiguous.
Demographic metrics have, and will continue to, employ the average second calculation. Effective August 2015 the household-level metrics will also employ this average second calculation.
For more information, please contact Rentrak Client Services.

Demo Data

Starting with the March 2013 survey, Rentrak will be providing PUTs and STRATA will be reporting these in the surveys.
Any previous survey will still be based off the STRATA derived PUT estimate.
** See Demo PUT Methodology section below
Starting with the August 2013 Survey Cable Network Rtgs will be reported for demos in 50 markets.
All other markets where demos are available will have Broadcast station demo data only.
** See Market Tier and Demographic sections below

Demo data is only available between 2a-6a EST/PST (1a-5a CST/MST).

Overnight quarter hours for Demos are excluded by Rentrak.

Demographics do not reflect viewing by individuals within a given segment. Rather, they reflect viewing by households with a member in the segment.

  • Market Tiers and Demo Availability

Starting with the September 2016 survey demographics are no longer available by Market Tier designation.  Rentrak now provides a standard set of demographics for the 202 reporting demographic markets.

Previously, demographics were available by Market Tier designation.

STRATA did not support Market Tier designations and available demographics are a full list of available demos across all Market Tiers where unavailable demos in a market would have 0 population.

  • Demo Combinations

Age/Gender demographics are not combinable.

For example, if Adults 18-34 cannot be combined with Adults 35-54 to get the Adults 18-54 demographics data. Additionally, Men 18-34 and Women 18-34 cannot be combined to get Adults 18-34. Adults 18-34 data if available is directly from the Rentrak feed. STRATA does not combine the Men/Women age breaks to produce the Adults age break.

Strata Demo PUT Methodology for Rentrak Demo Data

NOTE: Starting with the March 2013 Survey, Rentrak will be providing Demo PUTs. All PUTs moving forward are reported by Rentrak.

Demos Rtgs are only provided for a subset of stations (broadcast stations) by Rentrak at this time. STRATA has decided to estimate Demo PUTs so that our users can project demo viewership.

Using only the subset of stations with reported demo ratings, we calculate the “total” reported station viewing for HH and Demo and the “total” reported station HH Shrs by day and quarter hour. Although Households have viewing and usage estimates for cable networks and broadcast stations, using the subset of stations where demo ratings exist will be a better representation of PUT levels since there are no cable demo ratings available at this time.

Based on the “total” reported stations HH Shrs, we estimate the Demo PUT for the “total” reported stations by day and quarter hour.

Total Station = set of stations that contain both HH and Demo reported viewing.

For each day and quarter hour:

Total Station HH Imps = Sum of HH Imps for stations with reported demo viewing

Total Station HH Shrs = Total Station HH Imps / HH HUT

Total Station Demo Imps = Sum of Demo Imps for stations with reported demo viewing

Demo PUT = Total Station Demo Imps / Total Station HH Shrs

Once the Demo PUTs are derived by day and quarter hour, Demo viewing estimates for any station can be expressed over the calculated Demo PUT to derive Demo Shrs.

Once Rentrak starts supplying Demo PUTs and Shrs, we will stop producing Demo PUT estimates. Depending on how Rentrak derives their Demo PUTs and Shrs, methodology can vary. The STRATA methodology for producing Demo PUTs was discussed with Rentrak.
