DCM Connectivity in SBMS

DCM CONNECTIVITY IN SBMS

Clients can send Estimates and Schedules to Google DCM. The schedules can also be setup to retrieve metrics data from DCM.

**IMPORTANT SETUP NOTE:

  • Clients must contact their Google DCM Account Manager to request the connection with STRATA. DCM must change the clients account granting the agency rights to use this connection before anything can be set up in SBMS.
  • AQM must be installed by SBMS Service Manager in order to download metrics automatically. Its not part of the SBMS.NET installation, and must be installed separately. It is not required to install the AQM service on the same server as the SBMS application and the database, but typically it is recommended that the SBMS application and AQM are reside on the same server. Please see SBMS Service Manager Installation Instruction for detail.

DCM Setup in SBMS.Net

Once the necessary rights have been set up on the Agencys DCM account, the connection between SBMS and DCM must be set up in SBMS. In the Ad Server Setup screen in the Buying Options menu a DCM tab is provided.

An “Only show Clients that are currently associated with Interactive estimate” option is available on the DCM tab. When checked, the Client list in the sync steps will be filtered with only the ones that are currently associated with interactive estimate. When unchecked, all clients will appear in the Client Name.

  1. Open the Ad Server Setup screen and select the DCM tab.

Note: SBMS Service Manager version 5.05.11.20.4 and .Net Framework 4.0 is required.

Download Metrics

The Buffer Days field is used to tell the DCM Reporting API how many days it should go beyond the placement flight End Date and retrieve Impressions and Click delivery metrics.

Update Time and Update Days selections are available to setup SBMS to download metrics (Impressions and Clicks) automatically in the back ground for all linked schedules between SBMS and DCM. The download runs using the AQM service that is installed by the SBMS Service Manager on the server and as long as the server is not shutdown, the update will run in the background during the scheduled time(s).

Manually enter or select the time of day the update would occur in the Update Time field.

Select the Day(s) of the week the update should occur by checking the box to the left of the desired day.

Next Schedule Download indicates the next download date and time.

Placement Name Tab

The Placement Tab is created to give user option to select the desired media plan placement fields and concatenate them in a specific order to use as DCM Placement Name.

User-added image

    1. Available fields - All fields available to use as part of DCM Placement Name.
    2. Here are the rules on a few fields when they are selected:
      1. AV - When Net or Gross Cost is $0.00 or AV column is checked for a placement on the Media Plan screen, and the AV check box is selected on the DCM Settings screen, accessed through Ad Server Setup, “AV” will be included in the Ad Server Placement Name.
    3. Selected Fields - A list of all selected field; Use Up and Down button to change the order of selected fields.
    4. Selected Fields will be concatenated with “_” and pushed to DCM as Placement Name. For example, if “Site Name” and “Placement Name” were selected, “Site Name” was “AOL” and “Placement Name” was “Top Rating”, the DCM placement name would be “AOL_Top Rating”.
    5. Selected Fields are saved in GlobalSettings section of SbmsProfile.xml (key: DCM_PlacementName_Fields).
    6. Default selected fields are Site Name and Placement Name.
    7. The DCM Placement Name provide user preview of the placement name once pushed to DCM.
    8. There are 2 options of customize a Placement Name as DCM Placement Name are available:
      1. Selected - When Selected is checked, the Ad Server Placement Name use the same concatenation rule as it was in previous version. The placement name that to be pushed over to Ad Servers is concatenation of each selected field with a “_” as delimiter.
      2. Customized - When Customized is selected, “Available Fields”, “Selected Fields” and Up/Down buttons are disabled. The defaults Ad Server Placement Name will appear in an editable text box, this gives user the option of customize the placement name format.
  1. Select OK to finish the DCM setup.

DCM Sync Setup

In order to send Estimates and Schedules to DCM, several mappings between SBMS and DCM have to be established for all Clients and Sites that the agency wishes to send information. There are four Steps that need to be completed in the DCM Sync Setup.

Step 1 - Sync SBMS Clients to DCM Advertisers

When DCM Sync Setup button is selected, an Ad Server Setup dialog will appear where SBMS is retrieving Advertiser names from DCM in order to map them to existing Clients in SBMS.

User-added image

  1. An SBMS Agency, Office and Client must be linked to a DCM Advertiser. If there is an exact match for an SBMS Client to DCM Advertiser, the SBMS Client (Linked) field will auto-populate, along with the associated SBMS Agency and Office.
  2. If no match is found, DCM Advertiser (Linked) will be left blank. Users can manually populate these blank fields by clicking in the cells and choosing one of the available options in the drop down to map to existing DCM Advertisers.

User-added image

  1. In order to successfully map SBMS Clients to DCM Advertisers, the rows a user wishes to map must be selected and then the Next button will activate the linking process and will take the user to Step 2.

Step 2 - Add DCM Advertisers to SBMS

This step will display all DCM Advertisers that do not yet exist in SBMS.

User-added image

  1. Select all the DCM Advertisers you wish to create corresponding SBMS Agency and SBMS Office.
  2. Select a SBMS Agency and SBMS Office from the drop down lists.
  3. If the user does not wish to create any Advertisers in SBMS, the Next button can be chosen without any selection made.

Step 4 - Sync SBMS Sites to DCM Sites

This step allows users to map SBMS Sites to DCM Sites.

User-added image

  1. The DCM Site (Linked) field will auto populate matches to SBMS Sites as much as possible based on site names. If the DCM Site (Linked) field is blank, SBMS could not easily determine a match. A drop-down is provided when the user clicks in the field in order to change or add a Linked DCM Site.
  2. If a DCM Site does not exist in the list to map to an SBMS Site then that Site will not be available to send to DCM.

NOTE: An option to Show All SBMS Sites is available in order to display all previously mapped selections that are already attached to Schedules sent to DCM.

Sending Estimates and Schedules to DCM

Estimate screen

  1. “Landing Page Name” and “Landing Page URL” fields are required for DCM, they become visible only when DCM has been setup on Ad Server Setup screen. If users try to push an Estimate to DCM without “Landing Page URL”, a warning message will pop up.
  2. If an Estimate has been sent to DCM and any of the following fields are changed in the Estimate screen: Estimate Description, Flight Start Date, Flight End Date, Estimate Comments, the following pop message will appear “This Estimate has been sent to DCM. The Estimate changes need to be resent to DCM through the Campaign Management screen”.

User-added image

  1. There are a few things to note about the Media Plan screen if the user wishes to send these schedules to DCM:
    1. Only SBMS Rate Types CPM, CPC, CPA and Flat Rate can be sent to DCM. When Flat Rate is selected the placement line will map to the Cost Structure of Flat Rate - Impressions in DCM.
    2. Ad Srv. Placement Type in Media Plan is required in DCM. This field becomes available only after user completed all 4 sync steps in Ad Server Setup Screen. It populates the Placement Type field in DCM. One of the following four options must be selected: In-Page (DCM), In-Stream Video (DCM), Interstitial (DCM), and Widget (DCM).

  1. Once Schedules are ready to be sent to DCM, open the Campaign Management screen and Search for the appropriate Estimate.
  2. Select all the placement lines that should be sent to DCM.

User-added image

  1. There are DCM specific columns available in the Campaign Management and can be opened through Show/Hide Columns:
    1. DCM Sent Status - Indicates the Status of the placement line as it pertains to connecting to DCM. Not Sent means the placement line has not been sent to DCM. Sent means the placement line has been sent to DCM. After a placement line has been Sent to DCM, if any changes occur to DCM specific fields, this status will change to Revised/Not Sent to indicate the placement potentially needs to be resent to DCM by the user to update those changes in that system.
    2. DCM Sent Date - Represents the date when the Placement line was sent to DCM.
    3. DCM Metrics Until - This field tells the DCM Reporting API how long it should go and retrieve Impression and Click delivery metrics. The date reflects the flight end date Metric Download Buffer Days which is setup on the Ad Server Setup screen. SBMS.NET automatically continues download metrics from the DCM until the DCM Metrics Until date.
    4. DCM Placement ID - The Placement ID that retrieved from DCM for the published placement.
    5. DCM Site ID - The Site ID that retrieved from DCM for the published placement.

Note:

  1. Only those Sites that have a valid DCM Site mapping will have these DCM fields available to use. Sites that have not been mapped to a DCM Site cannot be sent to DCM and these fields will be grayed out.
  2. Ad Size - When Ad Size is available and Ad Tag Type is 1x1 (Only), Command Click (Only), 1x1 & Command Click (Combined) or SiteServed (None), the DCM Dimension will be set to 1x1. When Ad Size is not available, the DCM Dimension will be set to 1x1.

  1. Select the Update Status button

Approve

Placements with Draft / Revised / Canceled status must be Approved before send to DCM.

Select Approve option to approve that the flagged placements are ready to be send to DCM.

Other points worth mentioning

  1. If an Estimate has been sent to DCM and any of the following fields are changed in the Estimate screen: Estimate Description, Flight Start Date, Flight End Date, or Estimate Comments, the following message will appear, “This Estimate has been sent to DCM. The Estimate changes need to be resent to DCM through the Campaign Management screen”.
  2. Flat Rate placement - The program will now push Purch. Impression to Units for the flat rate placements.
  3. SBMS will push flights details to DCM:
    1. The details include flights Start Date, End Date, Rate, Units and Cost of each flight.
    2. DCM accepts non-continuous flights from the SBMS, and they will automatically add periods for any gaps between flights. For instance, if we push a placement with flights 1/5/2018 - 1/10/2018, 2/5/2018-2/10/2018, after the placement is pushed over to DCM, there will be 3 flights starting 1/5/2018, 1/10/2018, and 2/5/2018.
  4. A DCMTransactionLog.txt file is created in the SBMSNET installation folder. This file will reference all transmissions from SBMS to DCM. It can be referenced to troubleshoot connectivity issues between SBMS and the DCM API. It records the following information: Date, Time, and a brief message that the estimate or placement line was successfully sent to DCM or that it failed with a short description as to why it failed.
  5. DCM does not allow a change to the site on their UI and via API, once a media plan has been pushed to DCM, the only way to change a site name is cancel the placements in SBMS and create new ones and push both canceled but pushed placements and new placements to DCM. The cancelled placements will be deleted, new ones will be added.
