Optimizing Speed in Freewheel Applications

Identifying Types of Slowness in Freewheel Applications

There are multiple factors that can make FreeWheel applications run slowly, with different solutions to each cause. Accurately identifying the symptoms you’re experiencing will help Client Service resolve the issue quickly.

If you're experiencing slowness, submit a support case. When submitting the case, use the Subject line to indicate in which program you're experiencing the slowness. You can write, "Slowness in [VIEW/SBMS/ETC.]"

Use the examples below to fill in the Description portion of the support case.

1. Application Launching

It takes an unusually long time for VIEW or SBMS to open.

2. Mouse & Keyboard Delays

After clicking the mouse button, or pressing a key, there is a significant delay before the program responds.

3. Opening/Saving Files

Opening or saving campaign files in VIEW takes a long time.

4. SBMS Program Delays

In SBMS, there are long pauses when opening or moving between screens.
Note: In SBMS you can see this by looking at the loading messages in the bottom left corner while in these screens:

5. Pre-buy/Loading and Submitting

In VIEW, Pre-buy/Loading and/or Submitting takes much longer than usual.

6. Slowness when working on a specific estimate or file*

The entire program slows down when I'm working on a specific file in VIEW or when posting a large estimate in SBMS.

7. Reports

Reports in SBMS or VIEW, such as the Buy Detail Report, take a long time to display.

8. Other

Everything in SBMS or VIEW is significantly delayed. The slowness is not isolated to one or a few aspects of the program.

*It’s important to note the the amount of data being worked on will influence program speed. FreeWheel applications are designed to process large amounts of information. When working in VIEW on an annual campaign with 20+ projected surveys for example, the program is evaluating a massive amount of data which could result in delays when recalculating Reach and Frequency. The program speed should return to normal if you break out schedules by market and work with smaller campaign files. SBMS reporting and posting is the same way, reducing the number of details, items, or estimates on a report can significantly improve the time it takes to generate.
